Sibley/Peteet Design Austin received three Gold Awards for the 2010 Graphis Design Annual. The award winners are the Torchon Catering logo designed by Flint LaCour, the Schmitt Photography website designed by David Guillory, and the logo for the Barton Springs Edwards Aquifer Conservation District (BSEACD), designed by Oscar Morris.
Regarding his winning logo, Flint LaCour had to say, “Torchôn is a new catering company in Austin with a style that might be best described as ‘new classics,’ – incorporating fresh flavors into traditional techniques. When we were approached by the chefs/owners to create an identity that would celebrate their addition to the catering world, it was only fitting to do so utilizing a unique color palette, and custom-made typeface with modern flare, that is reminiscent of old-world sensibilities. An identity that not only shares their passion and precision for the culinary arts, but also their excitement and respect for working with fire and knives for a living. It is rewarding to add a personal touch that Torchôn’s chefs can identify with, and yet, have the overall appeal remain as warm, inviting and eclectic as the food for which Torchôn’s chefs are known.”
Jeremy Moore, Torchon Chef and Owner, said, “The Torchon logo’s old world stylization reflects the long history of the art-form while maintaining the rough feel that embodies the soul of cookery. SPD perfectly captured the essence of an idea that I wanted to represent with my company.”
On the logo for BSEACD, Oscar Morris said, “The BSEACD is an organization committed to conserving, protecting, recharging, and preventing waste of groundwater and to preserving all aquifers within the District. The logo needed to represent the organization’s role as a guardian of one of our most important natural resources – water. Graphis books are always filled with great marks that I really admire. It’s cool to have work included with such great company. What’s even more fulfilling as a designer is having a happy client. They were so appreciative of all the work our team presented. It felt like we hit a home run for them.”
