SPD Austin wins “Best in Show” and other top awards at AIGA’s inaugural Texas Show.
Sibley/Peteet Design Austin took home the top prize Friday night at The Texas Show 2010, the first statewide AIGA design competition of its kind. The opening night exhibit was held in Austin, and will next travel to Houston on May 27 and Dallas in June.
SPDA was awarded the “Best in Show” for the Coca-Cola environmental report. The Coca-Cola report won the trifecta by also garnering “Best in Austin” award, and “Best in Category” for books and brochures.
Also in the books and brochures category, SPDA took second place for the 401(k) Company brochure and third place for the TAMEST (The Academy of Medicine, Engineering and Science of Texas) fundraising brochure.
Another “Best in Category” winner was SPDA’s own website, launched in December 2009. Other award winners included second place for the Lone Star Donuts identity and third place for Soluna packaging. Also accepted into the exhibit were the logos for both Hyde Park Gym and Texas Commission on the Arts, the brochure for the Spanish Oaks Golf Course Community and Rockport Publishing’s Best of Business Cards 8.
Judges for the Texas Show were Paula Scher, partner in the New York office of the international design firm Pentagram, Joe Duffy of Duffy and Partners, Minneapolis, and Karin Fong, founding partner of Imaginary Forces, New York.
Special thanks to Jennifer Idol of the AIGA Austin chapter and her team for all their effort to make the show a reality. Also thanks to the event sponsors: Sappi, The Whitley Printing Company, Neenah Paper and Olmsted-Kirk Paper Company.
