Our Story

Studio | Peteet Design is a design consultancy with expertise in brand strategy and identity development. The firm's clients include brands you’ll recognize from around the world and around your community.

Rex Peteet and Don Sibley established Sibley/Peteet Design in Dallas in 1982 as a creative services studio specializing in identity and corporate communication programs. The studio’s illustrative style and elegant, often clever, design solutions soon gained both regional and national acclaim, bringing the opportunity to develop classic brands for clients as diverse as Haggar Apparel, Mary Kay Cosmetics and The American Heart Association.

The firm’s work continued to gain notoriety and attracted the attention of such well-known brands as Neiman-Marcus, Milton-Bradley, Farah/Savane and Lincoln Hotels—brands whose success has depended upon their image and shared connection with their customers.

In 1994, Rex founded Studio | Peteet Design (formerly Sibley/Peteet Design, Austin, the company's second office), to better serve the region’s expanding market as well as the firm’s growing client base. Over the years, the studio’s expertise in brand strategy and development has continued to grow, along with the leadership team, and today the company's services include a full range of strategic planning, naming, identity development, marketing communications, interactive services and brand management capabilities.

In 2010, Studio | Peteet Design joined Sherry Matthews Advocacy Marketing to further expand their mutual and collective service offerings. Rex has partnered with Sherry Matthews on various identity, branding, and design assignments since launching the Austin office, allowing the formal joining of the offices to be seamless.

In addition to the firm's clients’ success stories, they have received scores of regional and national awards, including the New York Art Directors Club, the Art Directors Club of Los Angeles, the One Show and the AR 100, the country’s largest and most prestigious design competition for annual reports. The studio's work has been widely published and featured in industry magazines and annuals, and several works have been selected for the permanent collection of the Library of Congress.

As a testament to the firm’s history and stature within the American design landscape, Sibley/Peteet Design was recently included in the 50th anniversary issue of Communication Arts which chronicled the heritage of the most influential design and advertising firms in the U.S.

But the heart of SPD has been, and always will be, the passion of the many talented designers and strategists who choose to call SPD home, driven by their love of the craft. Here “design” is not solely the authentic expression of our clients’ brands, but the process by which challenges are identified and opportunities framed. It is the synthesis of design thinking with creative problem solving. It is information and ideas, insights and inspiration, which lead to clarity of vision, captivating experiences and meaningful connections.
